Femmething Loves

Femmething decided to celebrate and revive Ziggy Stardust this month.  An icon who is irreplaceable, unconventional, most iconic, most Avant Garde and most mesmerizing out of all the personas of David Bowie‘s to date.

Ziggy Stardust is created by Bowie’s own imagination.  Led by his manager, Tony DeFries; he believed that an artist must look and act like he or she already is one.  This somehow still applies today, just take one good look at Lagy Gaga.  That is when Bowie met Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, soon an affinity began to blossom.  Kansai created numerous sexless, theatrical outfits for Bowie since then with the mix of sci-fi and classical kabuki theatre during the Stardust time.

We are glad that we were able to witness such legendary moment in music and fashion.  It is hard to even identify such icon in our modern days.  What’s done been done.  David Bowie definitely has flair or rather Ziggy Stardust.

hello-kitty-dr-martens-boots-anniversary-collection

We have admit that we are not that much of a big fan of Hello Kitty.  Eventhough she has been around acting cute for a very long time, well… there is only some much cuteness you can perceive over the years.  But something just changed our minds, not the cat but our beloved Dr Martens.

To celebrate Dr Martens 50th Anniversary, the boots label launched a special collection collaborating with Sanrio.  Hence, the Hello Kiity Dr Marten boots.  Not only we foresee ourselves rocking it on the streets of Harajuku, also proudly flaunting them at the next exclusive party!  But does it make us a fan of the cat, does it?

After Iman, Alek Wek is one supermodel whom we have always love.  She is stunningly beautiful, her beautifully skin colour glows and she will be able to carry almost anything especially loud and colorful prints.  She makes the clothes stand out.  We are glad that we came across this editorial (how we missed her!) titled “How to spend it” for the May 2010 issue of the Financial Times.  Photographed by Andrew Yee and styled by Damian Foxe.  We simply just can’t enough of Alek Wek!

Check out more of the stunning pictures after the jump!

Mama M.I.A is looking good on the cover of the June/July 2010 COMPLEX magazine after giving birth to her first son.  We have been waiting patiently for the new album to be released since “Paperplanes” and we haven’t heard anything ever since.  The third album MAYA is said to be released next month! Woo-Hoo!  In the mean time, the new single “Born Free” music video has been getting lots of attention due to the graphic nature of the video.  Enjoy the video and the making of the shoot while we anticipating the new release!

This editorial for Oyster Magazine earlier this caught our attention and what makes it interesting is both the styling and photography are beautifully done and we re-discovered the Teddy-era.

For those who are too young to know, the Teddy Boy/Girl subculture started in the 50′s in London.  As for girls, the Teddy Girls wore drape jackets, hobble skirts, long plaits, straw boater hats, cameo brooches, espadrilles and coolie hats.  Which all are super trendy right now!

Enjoy this beautiful spread and you might be the first to becoming a Teddy Girl this season!  Check out more images after the jump.

Femmething has been a long time fans of Azuma Makoto.  His work is outstanding and very few has achieved such results up to date.  It makes no wonder to us that he has worked with Martin Margiela and Issey Miyake; both design houses suit his style and therefore created a ‘haute couture bouquets‘ that staged mother nature like no others.  His work has showcased and exhibit between Tokyo, Paris, New York, Milan and Dusseldorf.  Check out more of his stunning creations through his site.

We heard much about customization on clothing but furniture somehow it is rare.  Martino Gamper happens to be a designer who is fascinated in deconstruction and reconfiguration.  He spent 100 days creating 100 new chair designs after spending 2 years of collecting discarded chairs from friends and the streets of London.

“My intention is to investigate the potential for creating useful new designs by blending together stylistic or structural elements of existing chair types.”  says Gamper.

Which one do you like?  More after the jump.
